Lower Thames Street, London EC3N 4DT
Join Mike Simpson, Project Partner at Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) – the lighting suppliers behind Illuminated River – for a journey under the rivets of London, Cannon Street, Southwark and Millennium Bridges. With over 30 years of experience in the lighting industry, Mike is Signify’s technical lighting expert within the Illuminated River Project Team. In his career he has been responsible for lighting many of Britain’s most iconic landmarks, including the external lighting of Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and Blackpool’s Pepsi-Max roller coaster. In 2009-2010 Mike was President of CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) and he is currently a guest lecturer on the MSc in Light and Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture. Mike’s tour of the first four bridges will give special insight into how Illuminated River’s smart LED technologies are providing a more long-term sustainable solution for lighting the Thames at night.
This boat tour has been arranged in partnership with Thames Clippers to provide low cost access to the Thames and to the Illuminated River artwork, which is best experienced from the river itself. The boat tours offer the opportunity to sail underneath the bridges and view the iconic architecture of these structures, which have been artistically lit for the first time.
The boat will depart on time and passengers should arrive at Tower Pier at least 15 minutes before departure. The boat tour will last approximately 30 minutes.
