Illuminated River: Light Up London Taxi Tours

Date 1 August 2019 — 31 December 2019

Black Cab Heritage Tours are offering two new and exciting tour options along the River Thames- led by charismatic London cabbies and focussing on London, Cannon Street, Southwark and Millennium Bridges. The tours will provide a panoramic sightseeing experience, punctuated by stops for presentations and photo opportunities.

Given the heritage of the City of London Corporation’s livery companies, which date back to the 12th Century, you can expect your Light up London Driver Guide to deliver a historical commentary, sharing past stories of when the River Thames has been lit up- the conflagration of the Great Fire of London or the Blitz period of World War Two. Expect amusing anecdotes about Illuminated River and the architecture and social history of the bridges within a wider story of light on the Thames.

The London taxi trade has its origins in the mid-17th century, expanding historically alongside the pace of the River Thames crossings. The Black Cab Heritage Tours cabbies are all London tour guides accredited by the City University – their course part-funded by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers.

Tours will appeal to both locals and tourists alike and are fully wheelchair accessible, with a hearing loop for the audibly impaired.
