Londoners and the Thames — Survey with City Cruises

Illuminated River are grateful to City Cruises, a leading boat operator on the Thames, who have commissioned research to find out more about what the river means to Londoners. City Cruises conducted research fieldwork with Londoners living inside the M25 during September 2018, and have shared their findings with us.

We were surprised to discover that one in ten children living in London have never seen the central London stretch of the Thames, and that young Londoners today are engaging much less with the Thames as a destination for leisure and pleasure, and don’t feel it is important to them.

We hope that Illuminated River project will encourage more people, especially families and young people, to spend time enjoying the river and riverside areas.
